Following on from recent news that several studios, including Ninja Theory, Double Fine, and Compulsion Games, were all in the gun at Xbox and facing closure if deals couldn’t be reached that’d see them spin off, be bought, or regain independence, word has filtered through that Undead Labs, the studio behind the State of Decay series, is in a similar predicament.

As reported by Games Beat, the Seattle-based studio is also searching for a buyer.

As recently as three months ago, we received signs of life from the upcoming sandbox survival threequel, with sign-ups commencing for its alpha playtest. The game also went on to feature in this month’s Xbox Games Showcase; however, it’s possible this, as in Senua’s case, was to attract interest from potential purchasers.

State of Decay 3 was first revealed six years ago; although it has been confirmed the game was no more than a few jotted-down notes at that stage, with the pre-rendered trailer simply serving to establish the tone, even if features like zombified animals wouldn’t eventuate.

Undead Labs was acquired by Xbox back in 2018 and has yet to release a title under the publisher.
