It’s very rare that you see Nintendo going out and purchasing developers, but they’ve announced today that they’ve acquired Next Level Games.
For almost as long as the Canadian developer has existed, it has had an exclusivity agreement with Nintendo, developing games such as Luigi’s Mansion 3, Punch-Out, Metroid Prime: Federation Force and Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon during the last 5-10 years.
In a press release sent out, Nintendo said that they had entered into an agreement to acquire 100% of shares of Next Level Games and expected this acquisition to close on March 1st, 2021.
We don’t know what Next Level Games is currently working on, although it’s a fairly safe bet to say that it was almost certainly already developing its next title for Nintendo Switch.
