Nintendo announced today that starting with the release of Yoshi and Mysterious Book that first-party Nintendo Switch 2 games would be cheaper digitally to make up for it being cheaper to release games on the eShop rather than having to print/ship them to stores, and we now know the impact of that here in Australia.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is $94.95 AUD to pre-order on the eShop whilst EB Games has the physical edition listed at $109.95 (the standard price for Switch 2 releases such as Mario Tennis Fever and Donkey Kong Bananza) which means that digital Switch 2 games will have a $15 discount which is a 13.5% discount.

NEW NINTENDO SWITCH 2 FIRST-PARTY PRICING

  • Yoshi and the Mysterious Book Physical Price – $109.95 AUD
  • Yoshi and the Mysterious Book Digital Price – $94.95 AUD

This obviously doesn’t account for retailer discount which we’ve seen drop to $99 or $89 for recent witch 2 releases, although it’s unclear if those discounts will still exist, but they will almost need to in order to remain competitive against the new Switch 2 digital offering. In case you missed it, you can find Nintendo’s announcement on this below:

“Beginning in May 2026, and starting with preorders for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, new Nintendo published digital titles exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2 will have an SRP that is different from physical versions.

Nintendo games offer the same experiences whether in packaged or digital format, and this change simply reflects the different costs associated with producing and distributing each format and offers players more choice in how they can buy and play Nintendo games.

As always, retail partners set their own prices for physical and digital games, and pricing for each title may vary.”
