Oh boy! This game! If you haven’t read it by now, you can find our review for Red Dead Redemption 2 right HERE, but there are so many amazing details in this world, that I couldn’t help but fill you in on a few of them separately.
The day and night cycle, as well as the constant weather shifts that happen throughout the game, are a big reason why the world of Red Dead Redemption 2 feels like a living and breathing world.
For the most part, you don’t even notice the shifts and changes that are happening at moments through your time with the game, but that’s what makes it so special.
There might be other games that do this, but I can’t think of one that does it so organically. Rockstar hasn’t overstated the fact that the time of day and weather are changing and have done a great job in making it feel organic as possible (whilst still looking incredible).
I felt in a similar way the first time a thunderstorm came over me. Rain obviously fell over the world every few days (gusts of winds also look amazing), but every once in a while an all-encompassing thunderstorm will close in on your from all angles, making the world dark. They add to the atmosphere of the loneliness of riding your horse through more desolate environments.
As soon as the clouds close in on your, they’re evaporating away and that beautiful sun shines through again.
Seriously though, Red Dead Redemption 2 looks fantastic. Every element of the world is believable, and I got through hours and hours and still managed to be amazed when the sun would come up, or a random thunderstorm would close in on me, darkening the world.
Here are some of my favourite shots in the game, showcasing a number of different times in the day. There’s way more that you’ll discover for yourself throughout your journey.
