NBA 2K21’s PS5/Xbox Series X ‘The City’ Mode Takes The Neighborhood To A Whole New Level

NBA 2k’s beloved online player hub, “the Neighborhood” is getting a new generation makeover on the Xbox Series X/S and the PlayStation 5. The virtual world will be known as “the City” on new consoles, adding driveway basketball, NPC quest-givers, and four competing factions to the game’s lifestyle and basketball culture features.

Erick Boenisch, Executive Producer at Visual Concepts shared details in a blog post shared earlier today,

“Here is The City at a quick glance: Imagine a map that is many, many times larger than previous Neighborhoods. A design that resembles a modern metropolis, complete with towering skyscrapers, sprawling plazas, and a city center. Oh, and it houses four distinct boroughs that are controlled by four rival Affiliations,” wrote Boenisch, sharing just a glimpse of what is to come in 2K’s most ambitious execution of a virtual basketball community so far.

Players will start their journey in Rookieville, sitting just off the water’s edge on the southern side of The City. Here, players hoping to make it in The City must first prove their skills amongst other rookie MyPLAYERs in this isolated cluster of basketball courts. From there, players will be assigned to one of the four competing factions; North Side Knights, South City Vipers, Beasts of the East or the Western Wildcats and at the core of Affiliations gameplay is rivalry and competition. At the end of every in-game Mayor term, rival factions will duke it out in a culmination of a series of events that ends with the crowning of just one faction. Players in the Affiliation that comes out on top of this head-to-head championship, can head to their Affiliations City Hall for their winner’s check (free VC!).
