It’s probably the thing you’d expect to have the least trouble with, but when I got my PS5, I definitely had a bit of trouble getting the stand on. It’s quite a complex installation process, and it’s something that Sony have obviously thought about long and hard, but it’s far from just chucking it on and calling it a day.
HOW TO PUT THE PS5 STAND ON
If you’re after a video you can watch our unboxing (skip to about 3:30). Take comfort in the fact that this was take five in trying to get the stand on.
HOW TO PUT THE PS5 STAND ON IN HORIZONTAL POSITION
Putting the PS5 stand on in the horizontal position is much easier than it is in vertical. You just want to line up the two prongs in the stand with the PlayStation symbols at the back of the console. You should feel it grip perfectly when it’s in the right spot.
Beware that it will slip around a bit still in this position. It doesn’t lock in to the point that if you move your console it won’t slide off.
HOW TO PUT THE PS5 STAND ON IN VERTICAL POSITION
This is where things get a little bit tricky and where I had to go back and watch the teardown video to get it to work. It’s listed in the quick start manual, but still a little bit too confusing for my liking.
Firstly, you’ll need a flathead screwdriver. You’ll see a little black button at the bottom of the console which you can get out with either your finger or the screwdriver. You want to put this into into the hole in the middle of the stand (it’s magnetic so should pop right in).
Grab your stand, and you’ll then want to grab where the hooks are and twist it until the little hidey hole is revealed giving you a screw.
You then want to hook the stand at the back bottom of your PS5. You want to screw it in with your flathead screwdriver (a coin also works) until it’s snug but not too tight.
That’s it. Now go and enjoy your PS5.
