A Hacker Group Has Apparently Hit A Major Milestone In Jailbreaking The PS5

A hacker group by the name of Fail0verflow has claimed on Twitter that they’ve managed to make significant progress in breaking open the PlayStation 5’s security.

As reported by Eurogamer, the group revealed on Twitter that they’ve gotten hold of the consoles “root keys”, unique passcodes that can allow users to decrypt its firmware and cause it to perform functions outside of the intended use.

Obviously this has major ramifications for PlayStation as the platform holder, as any potential for the PS5 to be “jailbroken” opens it up to running homebrew software and illegally-copied games.

In a follow-up the above tweet, Fail0verflow said “Translation: We got all (symmetric) ps5 root keys. They can all be obtained from software – including per-console root key, if you look hard enough!”

The group hasn’t made any further comment as to what they plan to do with this newfound information, and PlayStation is yet to comment publicly about the group’s actions.
