It’s been rumoured recently thanks to some accidentally-leaked key art, but at today’s Nintendo Direct we finally got confirmation – a remake of Star Ocean: The Second Story is coming this year, titled Star Ocean: The Second Story R. It’s launching on November 2nd for Nintendo Switch, as well as PS5, PS4 and PC.
Brought to life with a an aesthetic that mixes 2D pixel characters and 3D environments, not unlike Team Asano’s recognisable “HD-2D” art style, the remake is set to include everything that made the original game great while updating it with modern elements, including new battle mechanics, full Japanese and English voice overs, original and re-arranged music, fast-travel and more.
