Here’s The Australian Pricing For The New Slimmer PS5 Console And Detachable Disc Drive

A bit of a price increase on the digital.

This morning PlayStation finally revealed the long-rumoured new, slimmer PS5 model with a detachable disc drive.

The new model has had its volume reduced by more than 30% and weight by 18% and 24% respectively compared to the previous models. The faceplates will be broken up into four sections with the top portions sporting a glossy look and the bottom section remaining matte. It also has a new 1TB SSD up from the 800GB in the original PS5.

The new PS5 will be available to purchase in the same digital and disc offerings, but the one big change with this model is that if you buy the digital edition, you can now attach a disc drive later which can be purchased separately. PlayStation has also updated the console’s vertical stand to something much more solid, but it’ll now be sold separately with just a small attachable leg provided in the console box to keep it in the horizontal position.

The new models will launch in the US in November with a wider rollout, including Australia, to come over “the months following” at the below prices:

  • PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive – $799.95 AUD
  • PS5 Digital Edition – $679.95 AUD
  • Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive for PS5 – $159.95 AUD
  • New PS5 Vertical Stand (compatible with all PS5 models) – $49.95 AUD

Obviously, the better option here is still the console with the disc drive packaged in, with the digital plus the drive purchased separately costing $40 more in total.

Sony says that new PS5 console covers will release in early 2024 including an all-matte black colour as well as Volcanic Red, Cobalt Blue, and Sterling Silver variations.
