Honkai: Star Rail, the big new free-to-play title from the people behind Genshin Impact, has finally arrived on PS5 after launching on mobile and PC platforms earlier in the year.
The game is a “space fantasy RPG” featuring turn-based combat on large maps and a big focus on exploration in a sci-fi world mixed in with elements of mythology. The PlayStation Blog has a comprehensive post going over what makes the PS5 version of Honkai: Star Rail compelling, including native 4K visuals, super fast load time, optimised controls and more.
Like Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail is a free-to-play live service game with plenty of online elements and the promise of many future content updates, and has players build out their team of four heroes from a varied roster of companions. As with Genshin, new characters are obtained through a “gatcha system”, and to celebrate the PS5 launch, the drop rate of new characters is temporarily boosted.
The PS5 launch of Honkai: Star Rail also comes alongside the game’s 1.4 Update, which introduces new stories, new gameplay opportunities including an in-game monster-collecting and battling video game called Aetherium Wars as well as four new characters in Jingliu, Guinaifen, Topaz and Numby.
