Following on from the recent early access and open beta weekends, Firewalk Studios has divulged a heap of info around the upcoming release of Concord on August 23rd, detailing what players can expect from the game at launch and addressing questions players have had post-beta.

Given the genre it occupies, a lot of the discussion is around the game’s progression systems and content plans, and it’s been confirmed that Concord won’t have any kind of “battle pass” mechanic that players will need to work through to earn rewards. Instead, Firewalk says it wants the game to be “a rewarding and robust experience on day one, where just playing the game, leveling up your accounts and characters, and completing jobs yields meaningful rewards.”

It’s also been confirmed that the game will feature all of the six modes that were included in the beta at launch, along with 12 maps, and will also receive a steady stream of new Freegunners (the playable characters), maps, modes, features and more over time and at no extra cost to players.

For anyone hoping for some kind of solo play mode to dip into before heading out into the 5v5 game proper, there’s good and bad news. While there won’t be any solo-specific modes in the game at launch, there will be playable training modes to help players familiarise themselves with different Freegunners, mechanics, gear and anything else – and there’s always the promise of new content and modes down the track.

Ewan had a fair amount of praise for Concord following the game’s beta, writing, “The game feels much more approachable for those that have dabbled in hero shooters but grew intimidated by the complexity of the meta. The core mechanics of hero shooters are still present, but cycling through characters makes for a changed pace I think most would enjoy. It’s well-rounded, nicely polished, with a generous assortment of unique but balanced characters.”
