The Next Battlefield Game Will Take Place In A Modern Setting And Ditch Some Unpopular 2042 Mechanics

Respawn co-founder Vince Zampella (the current overseer of the Battlefield franchise) has taken to IGN to reveal the first details about the next Battlefield game and show off the first piece of concept art.

The next game in the series will take place in a modern setting with the concept art showing land, sea and air combat.

Speaking to IGN about the game, Zampella detailed how the game will be going back to some of the older Battlefield games, striving to incorporate what made those games great.

More specifically, it’s said that the game will ditch 128 player matches as well as the specialist system that was featured in Battlefied 2042, and largely not loved by players of the franchise. It will go back to a more traditional 64 player style and class system.

“I mean, if you look back to the peak or the pinnacle of Battlefield, it’s that Battlefield 3… Battlefield 4 era where everything was modern.. And I think we have to get back to the core of what Battlefield is and do that amazingly well, and then we’ll see where it goes from there.” Zampella said.

“So we are designing something that is more akin to previous Battlefields,” Zampella said. “I’d rather have nice, dense, really nice, well-designed play spaces. Some of them are really good. I can’t wait for you to see some of them.” he continued. “Specialist will not be coming back,” he added. “So classes are kind of at the core of Battlefield, and we’re going back to that.”

It’s not been confirmed when the next Battlefield will be releasing although he went on to say that players be able to sample the game in some form next year and get the community involved.

It’s also been confirmed that a large chunk of EA studios are working on the game including Motive, Dice, Criterion and Ripple Effect.
