The Hollywood Reporter has this morning revealed that Sony Columbia Pictures has a Metal Gear Solid movie in the works, with the directors of Final Destination: Bloodlines helming the project.
Directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein will be working on the live-action adaption having previously worked on the well-received horror franchise film, having emerged from a Steven Spielberg-backed filmmaking reality show.
The pair are also reportedly working on an animated Venom movie as part of a broader partnership with Sony Columbia Pictures.
The film is being produced by Avi and Ari Arad — who are no strangers to video game adaptations having produced Uncharted and Borderlands — and developed by Lipvosky and Stein’s newly formed production company, Wonderlab, specialising in “wildly fun, commercial, character-driven, genre-bending films,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
In a statement, the directing duo said, ““Metal Gear Solid was nothing short of a groundbreaking cinematic masterpiece that forever revolutionized video games. We are thrilled and honored to bring Hideo Kojima’s iconic characters and unforgettable world to life.”
There’s no word yet who might be cast as the iconic Solid Snake. Oscar Isaac has previously been attached to a project announced in 2012 that then disappeared into a development hell. Then, Jordan Vogt-Roberts of Kong: Skull Island fame, was set to direct.
