This morning, Microsoft confirmed that its next home console is codenamed Project Helix and that it’ll run both Xbox and PC games, suggesting that the rumours surrounding their hybrid approach for the next generation were accurate.

Recently appointed CEO, Asha Sharma, revealed that she’d be meeting with developers and partners with relation to the new hardware at next week’s GDC.

“Great start to the morning with Team Xbox,” Sharma’s social media post began.

We talked about our commitment to the return of Xbox, including Project Helix, the code name for our next generation console. Project Helix will lead in performance and play your Xbox and PC games. Looking forward to chatting about this more with partners and studios at my first GDC next week.”

As previously mentioned, this seems to align with recent rumours which suggested that the next Xbox, which is rumoured to release next year, is going to even further align Xbox’s console and PC strategies.

This recommitment to PC comes just a day after reports suggested PlayStation is moving away from releasing its AAA titles on PC in an attempt to restore a premium feel to its industry-dominating home console.
