It’s fair to say that the reception to this week’s introduction of EB World PLUS – a new paid membership for iconic video game retailer, EB Games that offers bonus goodies and extra trade value – has been less than enthusiastic, but if you’re someone who plonked down the $25-49 for a membership when it went live yesterday morning you may have earned yourself an extra (if accidental) bonus.
EB World PLUS members this morning received an unexpected email regarding a product that was not EB World PLUS but something called “Side Quest,” which promised $120 in EB Games vouchers spread out over 12 months – so a $10 voucher every month. This would obviously have been confusing as it wasn’t described as a benefit in the PLUS launch and fell under a completely different name, but a follow-up email that’s also gone out has clarified things.
Turns out, Side Quest is no longer a thing, with EB’s apology email calling it “mission complete,” and the original email was sent to PLUS members by mistake. It would seem that the company accidentally let an earlier concept for its paid membership program out the door, giving us as bit of a glimpse at other ideas it was trialing before landing on the benefits customers can sign up for now.
The good news is, if you’re one of those members who got the email – you can keep the initial $10 voucher that arrived in your inbox as an apology. The vouchers look to expire at the end of the month, so you’ve got to use it soon, but hey – maybe you can pick up the first of the 10 pairs of socks you need to buy to earn another pair of socks.
