Magic The Gathering launches its highly anticipated Lord of the Rings collaboration set, The Hobbit, in a matter of weeks. With it, players will join Bilbo has he sets off for an adventure of a lifetime, befriending dwarves, tricking Trolls and outwitting Elves along the way.
Like previous collaboration sets, The Hobbit packs a merry punch and a slew of precious Tolkien characters and stunning artwork, giving players plenty of favourites to chase after. From borderless, joining art of the infamous feast of Dwarfs at Bilbo’s abode to Land cards showcasing the treacherous journey of our heroes, as well as original J.R.R Tolkien Book Art, and card text written in genuine Dwarvish language. We also can’t go without mentioning the magnificent, terrifying dragon himself, Smaug, featuring on a gleaming, golden headliner card. So much care has been taken to bring out the magic of Tolkien’s world and combine it with…well the magic of MTG.
Thanks to Magic the Gathering, and Wizards of the Coast, we have an exclusive card reveal for the upcoming The Hobbit x MTG set. So without further ado…introducing, Dain’s Company.
Dain’s Company is a Rare, 2 Power /2 Toughness Creature – Dwarf Warrior sporting the fitting cost of White (Plains) & Red (Mountain) Mana. Its ability reads ‘This creature has lifelink as long as you control another Dwarf. When this creature enters, look at the top four cards of your library. You may reveal a Dwarf or Equipment card from among them and put it into your hand. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.’ The two variations in artwork have been illustrated by Erikas Perl (Standard) and Denman Rooke (Borderless), both showcasing the King Under the Mountain’s powerful dwarf army in the Battle of Five Armies to aid in reclaiming the Lonely Mountain.
Magic The Gathering x The Hobbit set is available on August 14, 2026, with pre-release events happening at local game stores from 7th August.
