Epic Games Is Putting Up $100,000,000 In Prize Pools For Fortnite

Fortnite appears to be exploding onto the scene of esports with Epic Games announcing they’re putting up $100,000,000 in prize pools for the next year. My mother said gaming could never be a fruitful career, how wrong she turned out to be.

The money will be used for esports tournament prize pools over the course of the 2018-2019 season.

“Since the launch of Fortnite Battle Royale we’ve watched the passion for community competition grow and can’t wait to empower you to battle with the best,” read the update.

“In the 2018 – 2019 season, Epic Games will provide $100,000,000 to fund prize pools for Fortnite competitions. We’re getting behind competitive play in a big way, but our approach will be different – we plan to be more inclusive, and focused on the joy of playing and watching the game.”

Epic hasn’t explained eligibility or exactly how players can get involved in this, nor have they clarified the plan to rollout said tournaments.

The update states, however, that we’ll learn more “competitive structures and eligible platforms in the weeks ahead.”
