To think we are, once again, two-thirds of the way through the year is just astonishing. But that also means something slightly more exciting – gamescom is once again here. To help open the event, Geoff Keighley has once again gathered a whole bunch of announcements, both big and small, to show us what the next few months of games have in store.
Just last year, the Opening Night Live event at gamescom 2024 revealed Borderlands 4, Mafia: The Old Country and Dying Light: The Beast, amongst others
While I’m a bit biased in my assertions, this year’s show is likely to be bigger than last year’s. We can expect a new look at both Resident Evil Requiem as well as Silent Hill f, which is already firmly in my wheelhouse. But will there be more? Perhaps Hollow Knight: Silksong (if we predict it’ll be at every event, we’ll eventually be right).
We’ll just have to watch to find out – all two hours.

ALL OF THE GAMESCOM OPENING NIGHT LIVE 2025 ANNOUNCEMENTS
THE NEW RESIDENT EVIL REQUIEM TRAILER WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE SHOW, OBVIOUSLY
The new trailer shows more of the relationship between Grace Ashcroft, the new protagonist, and her mother Alyssa Ashcroft, returning from the Resident Evil Outbreak games on the PS2. The game is still on track for it’s February release date. Still no Leon, though, and it’s clear Capcom is being very secretive with this game which only make me more excited for it.
THE SHOW CLOSED WITH GAME SCIENCE ANNOUNCING A SEQUEL TO BLACK MYTH: WUKONG
The game is rooted in ancient Chinese folkore, as Wukong was, but follows a new protagonist. It’s called Black Myth: Zhong Kui, and it seems to be a while away.
A BRAND NEW LEGO BATMAN GAME WAS SHOWN AND IT LOOKS PRETTY EPIC
The game appears to incorporate elements from the Arkham games, including the multi-directional combat system and vehicular combat. It’s called LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight and it looks to adapt elements from most of the films, new and old as well as comics and games. There’s even an open-world Gotham to explore and difficulty levels too. It’s out in 2026.
THE LATEST GHOST OF YOTEI TRAILER SHOWS OFF MORE OF THE GAMES RICH WORLD AND CONFIRMED LEGENDS IS RETURNING
The story is a bit been-there-done-that but it’s hard to deny that the world Sucker Punch has created here isn’t beautiful. There’s not much longer to wait now – it’s due on the 2nd October 2025 exclusively for PlayStation 5. BIG DAY for Ewan, wherever he may be. Legends is hitting as free DLC in 2026 and will add multiplayer to the game as with the original Legends.
CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS 7 GOT AN EXTENDED STORY TRAILER
Nothing particularly surprising, though it looks like they might be doing some funky stuff that blends singleplayer and multiplpayer if rumours are to be believed, based on what’s in this trailer. It’s out on November 14th and yes, Zombies is back too. Oh, and they announced the campaign is co-op enabled too, though you can still play solo if you want.
A BRAND NEW BUBSY GAME WAS ANNOUNCED
It’s called Bubsy 4D and it’s being developed by Fabraz, who previously worked on Demon Turf. It’s out for every major platform at some point in the near future. If you’re not familiar with Bubsy, he’s like Sonic but a cat. I guess. It’s kind of wild to think we’ve had three Bubsy games in recent years but Xbox can’t get their shit together and put out a Banjo-Kazooie but that’s okay.
BATTLESTAR GALACTICA IS GETTING A LOOK IN AGAIN WITH A NEW GAME
It’s being touted as a “story rich tactical roguelite”. It’s out in early 2026 for PC only at this point.
NIGHTDIVE IS DOING WHAT THEY DO BEST WITH ANOTHER REMASTER
This time, it’s the Lucasarts FPS called Outlaws. The remaster includes the 1998 expansion, 4K resolution support at 120FPS and cross-play multiplayer. It’s out in 2025.
HE-MAN IS GETTING THE ARCADE BEAT-EM-UP TREATMENT AND IT LOOKS GOOD
It’s an old school sidescroller that lets you play as four different characters. The art looks hot and retro.
ABSOLUM TURNED UP AT THE PRE-SHOW AND GOT A RELEASE DATE
The game is a hand-drawn roguelike beat-em-up. It’s out in October too, so not a huge wait now.
LONG GONE IS AN INTERESTING LOOKING TAKE ON A VERY SATURATED STORYLINE
The game uses a clever combination of 3D and traditional 2D pixel art to offer up a visual style like no other. It’s PC only at this stage.
THE GHOSTRUNNER GUYS DECIDED TO TRY THE SOULSLIKE FORMULA BUT IN FIRST PERSON
It’s called Valor Mortis, and, like I said, it’s a first person soulslike from the creators of Ghostrunner. You play as a soldier who was previously in Napoleon’s army, who is revived from death. No date was announced, but you can join the playtest now.
THERE’S A FUNKY NEW TRICK BASED GAME COMING
It’s called Denshattack! and it’s giving Jet Set Radio vibes. I think. It’s out in 2026.
THE LATEST GAMEPLAY FOR ROUTINE LOOKS REALLY FUCKING EERIE
The game has that futuristic analogue vibe that the original Alien film had, and thankfully has combat too. It’s out in late 2025, has Mick Gordon doing the soundtrack and it’s available on Game Pass.
PVKK HAS YOU CONTROLLING A GIANT CANNON
It’s certainly a unique premise. Watch the trailer and you’ll understand.
YET ANOTHER GAME LIKE THIS WAS REVEALED
Swords Of Legends is the name. It’s out on PC and consoles “soon”, but I assume that’s next year at least.
EVEN MORE SONIC RACING CROSSWORLDS DLC WAS ANNOUNCED
I feel like we’ve seen more DLC than actual game content at this point. But yeah, Pac-Man is here. Fun. It’s still on track for 25th September 2025.
HUGE NEWS IF YOU LIKE ROADS AND TRUCKS
Not my vibe, but this has a kind of Duck Dynasty / Sons of Anarchy vibe to it, but with trucks. I think it’s fine, but not for me. Mmm.
GEOFF OPENED THE SHOW WITH A LOOK AT SILKSONG AND CONFIRMATION OF ITS RELEASE DATE
Yes, it’s still coming this year. There was some minor new footage shown, but beyond that, you’ll have to wait for Team Cherry’s big YouTube premiere later this week.
THE NEXT LORDS OF THE FALLEN WAS REVEALED IN A FLASHY TRAILER
I’m not sure where we’re at in the Lords of the Fallen timeline, given there are multiple games with the same title, but this one looks similar to the previous ones, and I’m happy they’ve committed to calling the third game Lords of the Fallen II. It’s set for release in 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
A SEKIRO ANIME IS IN THE WORKS IF THAT IS SOMETHING YOU WERE WANTING
If the parry doesn’t feel this good watching it, I’m not sure I’m interested. It is apparently an adaptation of the original games storyline. It’s called SEKIRO: No Defeat and is heading to Crunchyroll at some point.
YET ANOTHER WARHAMMER GAME WAS REVEALED BUT THIS ONE MIGHT BE ONE YOU WANT
I’m so far out of my depth talking about Warhammer at this point, and there seems to be a game every six months with a CG reveal trailer, and this one is no different, BUT Dawn of War is one of those series that everyone seemed to love back in the day. It’s, as you’d expect, called Dawn of War IV, and it’s out in 2026 for PC.
THERE’S A FINAL FANTASY X MONTER HUNTER WILDS CROSSOVER EVENT HAPPENING SOON
This smells a bit desperate on both fronts, tbh but it’ll be fun to ride a Chocobo in Wilds. The update is scheduled to arrive in late September. This is the second time this has happened, with World getting a Final Fantasy event back in 2018. There’s also Monster Hunter content coming to Final Fantasy XIV in early October, which seems fair.
THE LATEST ONIMUSHA TRAILER INTRODUCES A NEW VILLAIN FOR MIYAMOTO TO CONTEND WITH
The demons look great, the combat looks snappy and it’s especially authentic to the original vibe of the later games. It’s not dated yet, but still on track for a 2026 release.
THE NEXT EUROPA UNIVERSALIS LOOKS JUST LIKE WHAT YOU’D EXPECT
This time aroud, you can automate certain processes so that you may better develop your strategy in this Grand Strategy game. It’s out in on November 4th.
THE DAEMON X MACHINA SEQUEL LOOKS A LOT DIFFERENT FROM THE FIRST GAME
And I mean that in a complimentary way. It’s a hectic mech battle game that’s still on track for a September release date. There’s even a demo available now It’s looking better than the first game, which I only kind of enjoyed.
THE SHOWRUNNER AND CAST OF THE FALLOUT TV SERIES JUMPED ON STAGE TO TEASE SEASON 2
The teaser take things to New Vegas and promises to follow Lucy through even more escapades throughout the wasteland. The Gogg is in full force here. The second season is still on track to hit Prime in December. Ooh, Justin Theroux.
THE FIRST GAMEPLAY FOR THE INDIANA JONES DLC TAKES THINGS TO ROME
It’s all about giants, which will make sense if you played the base game. It’s out in just a few weeks, in the first week of September. The base game is also hitting Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026, which i dynamic.
DEADPOOL VR GOT DATED AFTER A REVEAL A FEW MONTHS AGO
Omega Red is my oddball villain pick. It’s out on November 18th exclusively for Meta Quest 3 and 3S.
THAT JOHN CARPENTER GAME FINALLY GOT A GAMEPLAY REVEAL AFTER TWO YEARS
The game is said to combine the action horror vibes of the 80s with over-the-top humour. I’m really not sure how this is going to go, but it’s from the Space Marine II team so I have some faith. It’s called Toxic Commando and it’s out in early 2026.
THE MONKEY ISLAND GUY IS MAKING A UNIQUE NEW TAKE ON THE ROGUELIKE
It’s called Death By Scrolling and it has the screen scrolling as you do your best to escape death. I hope there’s some weird allegory about how our phones are killing us embedded but who knows.
THE DISCO ELYSIUM TEAM HAS REVEALED THEIR NEXT GAME AND ITS SNEAKY
The game takes place in a world of espionage, and is confirmed to be a cRPG. It’s called Zero Parades and it poses the question: “who will you be when nobody is watching?”. Asleep. At this point. It’s 3am.
THE LATEST NINJA GAIDEN 4 STORY TRAILER HIT AND LOOKS AS BLOODY AS EVER
The new trailer shows off some of the new weaponry and some of the new bosses in the game. Still not sure about this one, but Harry played it recently and enjoyed it enough. It’s still on track for it’s October release date.
THE LATEST SILENT HILL F TRAILER REVEALED THE ENGLISH CAST AND…..MORE BLOOD AND FOG
The game is really shaping up to be unlike anything else we’ve seen before in the Silent Hill games. While I’m skeptical, I’m especially excited to get my hands on it and see how it turns out. It looks unique for a lot of reasons. It’s still on track for a release on 25th September, just over a month to go.
YET ANOTHER CRONOS: THE NEW DAWN TRAILER WAS SHOWN
This one focused on cats, which is cute I guess. I’m intrigued by whether this is actually good or not but conceptually it sounds pretty solid and it looks like a better successor to Dead Space than Callisto Protocol was. Maybe – the trailer was pretty action heavy. It’s out pretty soon – September 5th.
THE LATEST OUTER WORLDS 2 TRAILER INTRODUCED THE GAMES MANY COMPANIONS
Dynamic, but still not sure about this one. Obsidian is really getting shit done though aren’t they? The Outer Worlds 2 is still on track for a release at the end of October.
AFTER MANY YEARS WE GOT A RELEASE DATE FOR VAMPIRE: THE MASQUERADE – BLOODLINES 2
This is tonally all over the shop, and I’m not sure it’s going to be what fans of the original game will want it to be, but it’s finally coming on 21st October 2025.
AGE OF EMPIRES IV IS MAKING THE JUMP TO PLAYSTATION 5 TOO
Optimised for controller, the game and its many expansions (including a newly announced Dynasties of the East) will be coming to PlayStation 5. It’s called Anniversary Edition and it’s out on November 4th 2025.
OUR FIRST LOOK AT THE SECOND KINGDOM COME: DELIVERANCE II DLC TAKES THINGS BACK TO THE FORGE
It’s out on 9th September. I missed the first one. I should really get back to this, it’s one of my favourite games of the year.
CULT OF THE LAMB IS GETTING AN AWESOME BUT SNOWY EXPANSION
Revealed in a cute but fucked animated trailer, the expansion looks to introduce new weather, new bosses and more. It’s dubbed a “massive” expansion and will be paid, available in early 2025.
BLIZZARD POPPED IN TO SHOW OFF THE OPENING CINEMATIC OF THE NEW WORLD OF WARCRAFT EXPANSION
It’s called Midnight, and it’s the eleventh expansion if you can believe it. It’s a shame the game doesn’t look or play anything like this. The expansion is notable as it introduces player housing to the wildly succesful MMO. How’s her eyebrows though. Girl. It’s still on track for a 2026 release.
