Indie Game Refused Classification in Australia

In yet another bizarre move from Australia’s seemingly unflappable Classification Board, indie side-scroller game The Bug Butcher has been refused classification in Australia, thereby making it illegal to sell within Australia.

The board officially states that;

“The computer game is classified RC in accordance with the National Classification Code, Computer Games Table, 1. (a) as computer games that “depict, express or otherwise deal with matters of sex, drug misuse or addiction, crime, cruelty, violence or revolting or abhorrent phenomena in such a way that they offend against the standards of morality, decency and propriety generally accepted by reasonable adults to the extent that they should not be classified.”

Very odd considering the general safe presentation and less than adult themes present in The Bug Butcher, the Australian Classification’s Board is known for being quite strict on video games, with bans coming in swift for Saints Row IV and South Park: The Stick of Truth.
