New Sonic The Hedgehog Games Are Coming Next Year

Mario is currently celebrating his 35th birthday but next year, his fuzzy blue rival, Sonic the Hedgehog will be celebrating 30 years of going fast with a line up of various initiatives designed to make 2021 the year of the Hedgehog.

According to the plan, outlined in a Sega advert in Licensing Source Book Europe’s summer 2020 edition, published this July, 2021 will include “new games, digital content, major announcements and a tailored licensing programme”. It’s worth noting the specific use of ‘games’ in the plural form, rather than mentioning ‘a new game’, suggesting that SEGA may just have more than one new Sonic game coming sometime next year.

Though we don’t have any additional information on SEGA’s plans, there’s no doubt that next year is going to be a big one for their beloved mascot. We expect to hear more from the company closer to 2021 and it’s possible that this may include an update on upcoming film projects, as earlier this year, we also reported that a sequel to Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog movie starring Ben Schwartz and Jim Carrey was already in the works.
