Netflix Is Building Its Own Games Studio

Tu-dum!

Netflix has announced that it’s putting together its own internal games development studio.

The studio will be established in Helsinki, Finland with Marko Lastikka (Zynga, EA) as the studio director. Netflix’ VP of Game Studios, Amir Rahimi, says in the press release that it’s the next step in the company’s push to bring “delightful and deeply engaging original games” to its audience with a commitment to no ads or in-app purchases.

Other than this new studio, Netflix already has three development houses under its wing with Next Games, Night School Studio and Boss Fight Entertainment. The company announced earlier in the year that it would have over 50 games available on its service from its first-party and partnered third-party studios by the end of 2022.

It’s still early days, and we have much more work to do to deliver a great games experience on Netflix. Creating a game can take years, so I’m proud to see how we’re steadily building the foundation of our games studios in our first year, and look forward to sharing what we produce in the coming years.
