The Australian Speedrun Marathon Returns Next Week In Support Of Game On Cancer

I'm more of video game speedwalker.

Australia’s biggest and most time-honoured speedrunning event, The Australian Speedrun Marathon, is back for another year with five stacked days of incredibly speedrunners showing off their skills in completing games faster than I could manage to learn the mechanics.

This year’s event will back in-person at the Adelaide Rockford Hotel and streamed online from July 12-16 for over 100 continuous hours of speedrunning action, raising funds in support of Cure Cancer’s video game initiative, Game On Cancer, which is dedicated to providing grants to early career cancer researchers to fund bold ideas and see them become leaders in global research. Elgato is also on-board as a major partner this year, assisting production with its dedicated streaming hardware, giving out prizes for donations and also donating directly to the event’s fundraising efforts.

You can see the full speedrun schedule here, with some exciting games being tackled including Cult of the Lamb, Hollow Knight, Final Fantasy VIII, Metal Gear Solid, Celeste, AFL Evolution 2, Triangle Strategy and even EyeToy Play.

Tickets are $25 and available now on the AusSpeedruns website for those in or travelling to Adelaide next week to attend in-person, and of course the event will be streamed live on the official AusSpeedruns Twitch channel.

Ethan Levy, Coordinator at AusSpeedruns, said in the accompanying press release, “We here at AusSpeedruns are proud to present the Australian Speedrun Marathon 2023 which is shaping up to be the most spectacular celebration in Australian history of the fantastic speedrunning community we have. We’re equally proud to be raising vital funds for Game On Cancer® to help make this the last generation to die from cancer. We are also thankful for the assistance from Elgato this year in making this all happen, as it wouldn’t be possible without their pivotal support.”

Shane Bailey, Head of Gaming & Streaming at Cure Cancer, said, “Our team is thrilled to be working alongside the AusSpeedruns team once again, this time for ASM2023. To date, this incredible community has raised more than $40,000 to support life-saving cancer research, and having the support of Elgato as a major sponsor this year will only help us make an even bigger difference together.”
