TMNT: Mutants Unleashed

Here’s Your First Look At The TMNT: Mutants Unleashed Game

Cautiously optimistic about this one.

As a longtime fan of the turtles with ‘tude, last year’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed animated film has quickly become one of my favourite bits of TMNT media. The movie perfectly captured the vibe of Team Green while giving them a modern edge and a gnarly aesthetic.

It’s maybe a bit late to the party, but the official tie-in video game for Mutants Unleashed is set to grace consoles and PCs everywhere in October, and in its debut trailer it at least looks to be emulating the overall style of the film.

Given this is a product of publisher Outright Games, known for funding faithful but ultimately low-budget adaptations of popular childrens’ licenses, there’s no real reason to expect GOTY material from this next TMNT game, but it honestly looks perfectly fine based on the footage. Characters and environments in Mutants Unleashed sport an attempt at the pseudo-hand-drawn, sketchy visuals of the movie, and the platforming and action look fun, if simple. Just what you’d want from a game aimed at younger players.

The studio behind this one, AHeartfulofGames, has proven experience in crafting a fun brawler with the very decent Heart&Slash, which is also encouraging.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed launches for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch and PC on October 18th, 2024. You can check out the official announcement trailer below:

From Outright Games:
