Overnight, Valve announced a significant price increase for both OLED models globally, and Australia is very much feeling the pinch.
Valve have cited rising storage and memory costs, which have also been to blame for many price hikes in the gaming world, including the PlayStation 5 earlier this year. If you’ve been holding off on picking up a Steam Deck OLED, hoping prices might come down, brace yourself for these price changes.
The 512B and 1TB OLED mdoels have increased to $1,119 and $1,429 respectively, whopping 33% and 36% increases. Fortunately, there’s been no change to the 256GB model at this point in time.
In a post on Steam, Valve explained the reasoning: “Steam Deck itself hasn’t changed; these new prices reflect the current state of component costs and other global logistical challenges across the industry as a whole.”
