The Switch Joy-Con Grip Included In The Box Is Different To The Joy-Con Charging Grip

It has now been revealed by looking at specs provided on the Nintendo Switch website that the Joy-Con Grip that is included in the Nintendo Switch box, is in-fact very different to the Joy-Con Charging Grip that is available for $39.95 (placeholder price)

As far as we can tell by the specs provided, you cannot charge the Joy-Cons with the provided grip in the box. It’s in-fact literally a plastic shell that holds the Joy-Cons together. To charge them, you’ll need to either put them back onto the docked Switch tablet (which may be an issue if you’re playing on the TV), or you’ll need to pay $39.95 (placeholder pricer) for the Joy-Con Charging Grip which has a USB-C port.

This is also confirmed in the differing weights. The Joy-Con Grip in the box weighs in at 97g whilst the Charging Grip weighs in at 106g.

This might not be an issue as it’s predicted that the Joy-Cons have a battery life of upwards of 20 hours. However, it might be an issue for those that plan to play on the TV for majority of the time and don’t feel like constantly switching out the Joy-Cons from the grip, to the tablet.

The Nintendo Switch will release on March 3rd for $469 AUD.

  • Really, you get a cheap plastic piece of crap version WITH the console? 300US/400CAD, no pack in (which is what that 12Switch game SHOULD be), no ethernet cable, AND a cheap plastic grip that ISN'T the one you've been associating with the console from the get go.
That won't piss people off at all, nooooo! Bad enough the pro controller and the joycons themselves are so ridiculously expensive, not to mention the games are full retail price yet are the same level as Wii games (literally, only difference for BotW is faster load times due to the cartridge).
    DOA. Totally DOA.

  • Nintendo are crazy with all these prices...they are barely holding on in the home console market and they do this Shit? I'm now convinced they are completely incompetent.

  • I preordered my switch last night (Zelda looks awesome) all up around $550 from EB in Aust.
Tho can't see the $460 price sticking too long in Aus. Especially when MS are releasing the Scorpio in November.
Just putting it out there as a prediction; By Xmas 2017 the Switch will be $399 with included game (in Aust).

      • Plus the $469. Number is a little odd isn't it? It'll be $449 in no time. But again personal prediction.

      • Like I said, the new Xbox is releasing at years end.
Sony will drop the price of the Pro in response ( to around the same price of the Switch now, prob $399-$450 Aud) and if Nintendo wants to stay in the game, pun, then they'll drop theirs too.
Here in Aust we do get slugged heaps of tax on games, but retailers like EB, Target etc do offer great deals around the holidays.
But as I did disclaim, just a personal prediction.
