I remember people using their 3DS to watch porn, but this is a whole new level of insanity.
If you’ve played Super Mario Odyssey’s balloon mode, you’ll know that player’s profile pictures show up on their balloon in that section of the game. Obviously Nintendo has known that this kind of thiNG could happen, which is why you can only use their chosen images as profile pictures.
Now that the Switch has at least been partially hacked, people have obviously figured out how to insert their own profile pictures into the game, resulting in pornographic images showing up in Super Mario Odyssey (obviously).
The Reddit post (which we discovered on Vooks), reads:
As pointed out by this post, it seems hackers have found a way to insert indecent content into our children’s games.
It seems to be an issue with users’ profile pictures.
The picture was changed several times over the course of my time patrolling, each picture being pornographic content.
There are multiple of these balloons all being made by the same user.
This is obviously intentional, and made to upset children.
These are some of the images I’ve seen, and your child could find when playing, but censored so they aren’t as obscene.
We only have seen this happen on Mario Odyssey, but who knows how many other games could be affected.
While we wait for Nintendo to offer better parental controls, I am taking my child’s switch offline and I encourage others to do so with me.

Now, I reckon that Nintendo will remove this functionality in the next game. It’s really not crucial to the mode at all, and I’d rather not see these images, let alone younger kids. It’s going to be interesting to see how this develops. The Switch has been hacked quite quickly and given the popularity, and the fact that it’s portable, hackers will be working to bring in other exploits.
