Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is out very soon and we’ve been hard at work trying to understand how the game doles out its unlockable characters (there’s 54 of them). It turns out there’s heaps of ways, but one of the most reliable ways I found with the game was through the standard Smash mode.
Obviously, this is the fastest way we were able to come up with that felt the least tedious; there may be other methods out there but this seems to be the quickest and simplest way to unlock characters.
It’s really easy. Essentially, you just have to play the game in ten minute intervals. After each ten minutes, and you finishing a match, the game will throw a new challenger at you who you must defeat to unlock. After doing so, you can just leave your Switch running for ten more minutes and then attempt another match to unlock another character.
Obviously this is not the most time efficient way to unlock – while you’re waiting for another ten minute to elapse you can perhaps try a Classic Mode run to see how that goes – as that unlocks a character too.
Though until we have more concrete details, here’s the list of characters as we unlocked them. Your mileage may vary, but I did this purely playing Smash Mode.
We’ll update this as we are testing right up until the launch of the game tomorrow (or today, depending on when you read this) but for now this is the order you’ll be unlocking people if you just play Smash matches every ten minutes.
