Nintendo has just released it’s financial earnings report for the fiscal year ended March 2024, but alongside this a message from its president, Shuntaro Furukawa, has confirmed that a Nintendo Direct showcase is happening in June which will show off the company’s games line-up for the rest of 2024.
While we don’t have a date or time for the Direct just yet, we do already have one piece of confirmed information – it won’t feature the announcement of the successor to the Switch. Furakawa has finally acknowledged that the company has new hardware to announce soon, though – promising it’ll happen within this financial year (or before March 2025).
“This is Furukawa, President of Nintendo,” the post on X making the announcement reads. “We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015. We will be holding a Nintendo Direct this June regarding the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation.”

Given that it looks increasingly like the next console is set for a 2025 launch, it’ll be good to have a clearer vision of what the company has lined up for the current Switch between now and then. A recent ESRB listing outed the possibility of some kind of NES Remix spiritual successor, and we still have Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door this month followed by Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD in June, but after that it’s all a little unclear.
