Here’s Everything Announced At Today’s Devolver Direct

This morning, it was Devolver Digital’s turn to use their platform to reveal all of the new games and release dates for their upcoming slate.

Known for their tongue-firmly-in-cheek, over the top routines, this Devolver Direct is another flagrant lift of the Nintendo formula that’s worked so well. Of course, there was plenty of the bizarre, time-hopping narrative that ties the whole thing together with Nina Struthers and Linda Masters starring in a plot to stop the “future’s future’s future”.

But as for the games, here’s a rundown of everything that was announced at this morning’s Devolver Direct.

First Look At Shadow Warrior 3 Gameplay

After last week’s tease, we knew we’d get a pretty good look at Flying Wild Hog’s third instalment of Shadow Warrior, a hyper-stylised, hack and slash game that holds very little back in terms of dismemberment and violence.

Shadow Warrior 3 is set for release in 2021.

Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout Gets A Release Date

With a special cameo from Shuhei Yoshida, who was more than happy to play along with the Devolver crazies, it was announced that Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, the game where it’s essentially a battle royale meets Takeshi’s Castle, would be coming to PlayStation 4 and PC on August 4.

Carrion Is Coming Out Soon And It’s On Xbox Game Pass

It kept getting weirder as the starring monster from the upcoming title Carrion, developed by Phobia Game Studio, appeared to announce the release date for his own game, with a little help from the head of Xbox Phil Spencer.

The game releases on July 23 and it’s coming for Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch with Phil Spencer also confirming that the game is, indeed, headed to Game Pass.

Olija Is A Pretty Rad Action Game With Razor Sharp Combat

One of the better shadow drops from the Devolver Direct had to be Olija, which is an adventure game about a man named Faraday who finds himself shipwrecked in a terrible land and his lone goal is to find a way to escape with his castaways.

With a focus on platforming and exploration, there’s a little bit of a Prince of Persia vibe to parts of the trailer, though the combat looks far sharper and twitch-focused. Olija is coming to Nintendo Switch and PC in 2020.

Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass Gets A Hectic New Trailer

This Devolver Direct gave us another look at the upcoming instalment in the Serious Sam franchise, titled Planet Badass. The game is hectic and has a frenetic pace to it, not dissimilar from the likes of Doom and other classic shooters.

Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass releases this August on Google Stadia and PC.

Devolverland Expo Is A Playable Marketing Simulator Set In An Abandoned Expo Hall

It’s no secret Devolver like to do unconventional things with their brands and marketing. Last year’s Devolver Bootleg is one such case, but this year they’ve raised the bar again with Devolverland Expo.

Developed by Flying Wild Hog, the team behind the Shadow Warrior series, it’s set inside an abandon conference centre and is an exercise in genius marketing. It’s free to play on Steam.
