Steam Is Seemingly Now Offering Time-Limited Game Trials

Starting with Dead Space.

It seems as though Steam has begun serving up trials of games on it service, in the form of time-limited demos of full games not unlike the Game Trials included in the PlayStation Plus Deluxe tier subscription.

Although Valve hasn’t officially announced any plans to roll the feature out in a major way, one game has already begun to offer a trial. EA’s excellent Dead Space remake from earlier in the year can now be downloaded in its entirety and played for a total of 90 minutes at no cost and with no other restrictions to gameplay.

It definitely stands to reason as a decent way to alleviate some of the problems around the current 2-hour refund window that Steam offers, making it easier for potential players to simply try the game out without risking handing over their cash. If implemented more widely, it could also help users determine first-hand whether a game is appropriately playable on their systems.

You can check out the trial for Dead Space yourself on Steam right here, where it will be available up until Tuesday, May 30th.

The sci-fi survival horror classic Dead Space™ returns, completely rebuilt from the ground up to offer a deeper and more immersive experience. This remake brings jaw-dropping visual fidelity, suspenseful atmospheric audio, and improvements to gameplay while staying faithful to the original game’s thrilling vision.

Dead Space is definitely worth giving a crack if you haven’t already, we gave it a 9/10 in our review, saying “EA Motive could have taken a path of least resistance in delivering a Dead Space remake, though I’m thankful for everything they’ve poured into what is a tremendous reimagining of one of gaming’s truly iconic horror games. It’s gorier than ever, the story is made whole, encompassing lore elements once merely pieced together by its fan base, and feels like a genuinely fresh twist on the original.”
