Content Warning Looks Like A Hilarious Riff On Lethal Company And It’s Free For Today Only

Get around it!

Although it’s easy to be feel out on April Fool’s jokes in the year 2024, the most creative people use this time of the year to drop actual real projects that are absurd enough to fit in wonderfully with the vibe.

Content Warning is one of those projects, and it comes from the folks at Landfall Games who previously brought us slapstick fodder like TABS and Clustertruck. Playing on the idea of virality-baiting games popular with content creators like Lethal Company, where half the fun is playing and then the other half is watching back videos of you and your friends getting absolutely wrecked by the game, Content Warning puts the viral video side of things in the game itself.

The idea here is to go down to the incredibly-creepy “Old World” with a group of up to three other friends to find cursed relics, monsters and other scary things to film for “SpookTube” and rack up views. The more you can film and share in a three-day run the more ad revenue you’ll get to upgrade your gear and make even better videos.

It sounds like a genuinely great concept, and the best part is that not only is the game out right now on PC but it’s also completely free for a very limited time on Steam. You can find it right here, so make sure to claim and add it to your library before 3AM AEDT on Wednesday, April 3rd.

From the developer:

“Get famous or die trying! Content Warning is a co-op horror game where you film spooky stuff with your friends to try and go viral.

“Step One: Go Down to the Old World Squad up, customize your face with the ASCII face customiser, buy some gear and use the diving bell to go down to the Old World! Down there you’ll encounter scary physics-animated monsters, cursed relics and other artefacts!

“Step Two: Film something scary Film as many scary things as possible before you run out of oxygen, camera battery or friends…

“Step Three: Upload to SpookTube If you survive, you need to get back in the diving bell to transport you and the remaining members of your team to the surface. Upload your chaotic footage to SpooktTube, settle in for a watch party, and wait for the views to tick up!

“And… Profit!! Every run goes on for 3 days, the more scary stuff you film, the more you go viral. The ad revenue from your SpookTube videos enables you to upgrade your gear to film better videos and survive more easily in the Old World.”
