When Death Stranding was revealed as a PlayStation 4 exclusive at E3 2016, people were quick shocked that Kojima had landed an exclusivity deal and was so far along with a brand new concept so quickly.
When asked by Greg Miller at RTX Sydney about why he chose PlayStation as the exclusive home for Death Stranding, Kojima said that he chose PlayStation due to the mutual respect and because he has been working with the company for over 20 years.
He said that he wanted to make sure that the first game as an independent developer was a major success whilst still being his creative baby. He said that he knew there would be little chance to fail with PlayStation.
When asked about PlayStation’s involvement in development, Kojima said that they’d never forced him into tacking things such as VR onto the game and that they were largely in control of promotion and advertising ,but he still had a massive input on this.
He spoke specifically about the trailer at E3 and the fact that that if it were any other company, they’d have been against that. The fact that Norman Reedus was naked and not much about the game was shown wouldn’t have been allowed by other major publishers.

PS4 the win
Maybe I pickup both console and game second hand from GameStop a few months after release.
What other platform would Kojima choose? Microsoft? HaHaHaHaaHaaa....don't make us laugh, please. Sony was a fait accompli for the man.
You do realise the games industry needs both Sony and Microsoft to thrive
And? What does that have to do with my comment?
