Its not unusual for Amazon to ship copies of games out early, with titles such as Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Ghost of Tsushima arriving a couple of days ahead of release, but Australians have started getting Marvel’s Avengers from Amazon over a week in advance in the last few days.
Reader @ElevenOhNoes shared an image of his Australian PS4 version of the game yesterday, but we quickly clarified with him that the game didn’t work. This is due to the fact that the game needs an 18GB patch to be playable. It’s expected that this will go live sometime early next week ahead of the PlayStation Store Exclusive Digital Deluxe edition. Kotaku also reported on a copy arriving early for one of their readers, so it’s not an isolated incident.

It’s a bit of a weird one. Technically, Amazon has shipped it ahead of time (which is fairly common practice), but street dates are a little but murkier with online retailers. It’s likely that Amazon has shipped these early to ensure that they arrive in time given the current postage delays in Australia. I think it’s unlikely physical retailers follow suit (unless a lot more copies start to arrive early), but we’ll keep you posted.
The standard version of Marvel’s Avengers is scheduled to launch on September 4th.
