Call Of Duty: Vanguard’s Immersive New DualSense Features Have Been Revealed

The PlayStation 5’s DualSense Wireless Controller and shooters are a match made in heaven, so it only makes sense that gaming’s best-known shooter franchise would take full advantage of what the controller is capable of.

To that end, Principal Engineer at Sledgehammer Games, Chris Fowler, has had a guest spot over on the PlayStation Blog to talk all about Call of Duty: Vanguard and how it takes advantage of the DualSense to giver players an immersive and engaging shooting experience. You can read the blog post in full here, but we’ve put together a rundown of the new features below.

Call of Duty: Vanguard is all about “the art of the trigger pull”, using the feedback from the DualSense controller’s adaptive triggers to communicate the stages of a pull of the trigger in-game — from the distance the trigger travels during a press, to the break point where a shot is fired, the travel immediately following a shot and finally the point where it resets.

Taking advantage of these stages means that Sledgehammer Games has been able to communicate the differences in trigger weights between firearms, from sidearms with a medium amount of tension to weighty marksman rifles. You’ll feel the weight of each pull, but also the feedback from the trigger under your finger as it resets after each shot. Tearing up the game’s new reactive environments with an LMG is going to feel amazing.

Players will also be able to feel the variety in weight between different weapon scopes and the speed at which you aim down sights, further augmented by the attachments you have on your weapon.

Of course the DualSense’s unique features aren’t limited to the adaptive triggers — you’ll also feel the effects of explosions, bursts of fire and environmental debris and destruction through the controller’s haptic feedback.

Call of Duty: Vanguard releases for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC on November 5, 2021.

Amazon currently has the cheapest pre-order price at $78 (PS4/Xbox One) and $88 (PS5/Xbox Series X) with free shipping.
