Last year, Insomniac introduced an update to the excellent Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart that added support for 120Hz displays, which also enabled a new framerate cap in the game’s highest-quality “Fidelity” visual mode. This wound up being something pretty special, as Digital Foundry explains, bumping up the framerate in Rift Apart to 40fps not only means a nice little boost of 10fps while retaining the graphical fidelity of the 30fps mode but also keeps frame pacing consistency at a decent level.
Now with the advent of VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) support on PlayStation 5, announced for a handful of titles so far that you can read about here, Insomniac is not only able to smooth things out even further in Rift Apart but they’ve gone the extra mile and added 120Hz/40fps support to another two titles. Both Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will also be getting the new graphical modes in the same updates that bring VRR support to both games, which is great news.
