Today at the Ubisoft Forward showcase, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora impressed with a brand-new trailer and gameplay deep dive, along with finally securing a release date.
The game will launch on December 7th this year, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
The new trailer shown during the Ubisoft Forward show off the first-person action adventure, which casts players as a Na’vi avatar in an uncharted portion of Pandora under threat from the RDA. James Cameron beamed in (presumably via a deep-sea submarine somewhere) to talk up the game, and his cross-media ambitions for the franchise.
Ditte Deenfeldt, the game’s director, then took viewers through a deep dive into gameplay the backstory of the player character, the new world that they’ll explore and discover, and the kinds of gameplay players can expect to engage in throughout the Western front. Excitingly, players will be able to bond with one of the flying Ikran creatures, even naming and customising it. You’ll be able to tame other creatures in the world as well. There will be different biomes housing different clans to discover and ally with, and RDA bases to take down using both your Na’vi abilities and weapons as well as human firearms and gadgets.
Cooking, crafting, upgrading skills, parkour, stealth and more are all here as well, as well as full two-player cooperative online support throughout the entire campaign.
