Sony has released its latest financial results from the first quarter in its Fiscal Year 2023, revealing that sales of PlayStation hardware and software are going strong while active monthly users has also seen a significant bump up from the same period last year.

It was only a couple of weeks ago that we reported Sony had crossed the 40 million units sold threshold for the PS5 console, and its latest results show that number is now an impressive 41.7 million. In the last quarter alone, 3.3 million PS5 consoles were sold which is a big step up from the 2.4 million sold in the same three months last year.

Adding to that, it’s managed to rack up a combined 56.5 million units of software sales between PS5 and PS4 in just the three months ending on June 30th, 2023, which includes 6.6 million units of first-party titles. PlayStation also revealed that the ratio of digital download sales compared to physical sales was a massive 72% which is slightly lower than the same period in FY2022 but the highest it’s been since.
