It’s hard to fathom that we’re now coming close to six months clear of Helldivers 2’s astronomical launch back in February, and the team at Arrowhead Game Studios is certainly prepping to mark the occasion in style with the announcement of the Escalation of Freedom update, which arrives on August 6th.
In what it’s calling the game’s “biggest update yet,” Arrowhead is giving its dedicated community a lot to look forward to, including new mission objectives, new enemies, environmental hazards and crushing new levels of challenge.
As detailed over on the PlayStation Blog, seasoned ‘divers with a death wish that yearn to be punished even harder than the game currently offers will be happy to know that Combat Rating 10 is being introduced. Dubbed Super Helldive, it promises to put your skills and teamwork to the ultimate test, and will no doubt come with rewards to match.

In addition, the update will bring with it new mission objectives, bigger outposts and new Super Sample rewards, regardless of what difficulty you play on.
And it wouldn’t be a major update with some fearsome new enemies to take on, so expect to face fresh and returning foes of both the Terminid and Automaton varieties – including the original Helldivers’ huge Impaler and the self-explanatory Rocket Tank.
Arrowhead has also called out some changes to the game’s team kicking system, in an effort to reduce the impact of grief kicking, which will ensure that players aren’t disadvantaged when it comes to their collected loot. Even more quality-of-life features and fixes are on the way as well, with more we’re no doubt yet to find out about before the update lands.
