It feels like a significant day in games because arguably Xbox’s most iconic franchise (at least in the 360 era) has come to PlayStation, whilst PlayStation’s largest IP in the last handful of years launches on Xbox (with DLC for Xbox’s second largest IP available on PlayStation as well).
In case you haven’t been playing attention, of course I’m talking about Gears of War, Helldivers 2 and Halo.
As of today, Gears of War: Reloaded is available on PS5 (as well as Xbox/PC) bringing the original game with its campaign and multiplayer with brand new graphics, playing better than ever on the PS5 Pro as well.

On the flipside, PlayStation announced that it’s hugely successful Helldivers 2 would be coming to Xbox Series X|S, and of course, they also chose today to release it. It’s fully cross-platform so you can play with your friends on PlayStation and PC, and this is a pretty big deal given it’s not only a huge PlayStation game, but PlayStation seemed against cross-play for the longest time.
In case that wasn’t weird enough for you, launching also today is the first Legendary Warbond within Helldivers 2 (on all platforms) in the Halo ODST Warbond which technically means that Halo is available on PlayStaition for first time.
This brings costumes, guns, patterns and a bunch of other goodies from Halo ODST to the world of Helldivers 2, and just furthers a shift within the gaming space.
It’s been pretty obvious that Xbox is diversifying where it’s content lives, so this is nothing hugely new, but for PlayStation to be doing the same in not only releasing Helldivers 2 on Xbox, but also allowing Halo to be incorporated is a big win for everyone and shows that they’re warming on the idea too.
