One of the standout moments from today’s Destiny 2: Edge of Fate reveal stream, was a short snippet from this year’s second expansion; Renegades. The Year of Prophecy kicks off an all new saga for Destiny 2 in the Fate Saga, with the first expansion, The Edge of Fate launching on July 16th. Following shortly after, though, is Renegades on December 6th.
Destiny has always worn its inspirations on its sleeve, Star Wars being one of the most prominent. It seemed that Bungie’s love for the franchise culminated in a cosmetic release done in collaboration with the brand proper, bringing iconic Star Wars designs into the Destiny universe. It would seem that’s not the end of it, though. While we’re yet to see the full extent of what this expansion entails, Renegades seems to be developed in partnership with Lucasfilm.
The short teaser has a Star Wars style blaster, the same hopeful score, and a Lightsaber to boot. The trailer ends with three Guardians riding across a sandy landscape very reminiscent of Tatooine. It remains to be seen how far this crossover goes. Given the role of the Nine in this new saga, the idea of multiverse related shenanigans isn’t entirely out of reach, though it seems unlikely that a Destiny expansion would be set in the Star Wars universe.
Nonetheless, it’s a very exciting prospect that has a whole lot of potential. Purchasing the Year of Prophecy Ultimate Edition unlocks the Dark Side Legends bundle; three new ornament sets that replicate the looks of Darth Vader, Kylo Ren, and General Grievous. The whole thing is quite the crazy collaboration, and we won’t have to wait too long until Renegades is properly revealed in September.
