The Xbox September Update Is Out Now With UX Improvements And Customisable Xbox Button Colours

I didn't even know they could do that!

Xbox has rolled out a massive September update to all users today, bringing with it some much-needed user experience improvements as well as a nifty and surprising little new controller feature.

Xbox Button Colour Customisation

Starting today, which coincidentally marks the launch of the cheaper Xbox Elite Controller Series 2 Core, anyone who owns either version of the Xbox Elite Controller Series 2 will be able to jump into the Xbox Accessories app on their console or PC and change the colour of the Xbox button on the front of the controller. There are 16 million colours to choose from and you can set specific colours to each saved profile on your controller.

Library And Storage Improvements

Xbox has also revamped how game library’s work in the console’s user interface. When viewing your full library of games, things are now organised much more cleanly and you’ll be able to sort by games you own as well as ones downloaded through Game Pass, EA Play and Xbox Live Gold.

On top of this, you’re now able to choose the default installation location for content dependent on whether it’s a game optimised for Series X|S, a backwards compatible game or an app.

Sharing And Party Chat

On the social side of things, Xbox Game Par on Windows PCs can now instantly upload and generate a shareable link for any capture you create so you can quickly and easy show your friends all the neat things you do in your games, and they can pretend to care.

Meanwhile, the party experience has been improved with party chat noise suppression being rolled out to Xbox One consoles and Windows PCs after a successful launch on Series X|S devices last month. There’s also a handy new “Start party” button in the Xbox App that’ll list your recent parties and allow you to jump right back in without having to create new ones from scratch.
