The Game Pass Version Of Starfield Can Be Upgraded For Early Access

This is neat!

Bethesda’s next epic blockbuster RPG, Starfield, got a massive showing at this year’s Xbox Games Showcase with its own, dedicated 45-minute deep dive that showed us just about everything we’d need to know about the game.

On top of looking at all of the ridiculously-impressive stuff that Bethesda is doing with this incredible sci-fi setting, it also revealed the various editions of the game that will launch in September, including an exciting (and expensive) Constellation Edition complete with working watch and thoughtfully-designed space case. Both this and the Premium Edition of the game will also allow players to get up to five days early access to the game. But while you could spend $500 on the CE, or $170 on the Digital Premium Edition – there’s another, far cheaper way to be among the first to start their Starfield journey on September 1st.

I give you: The Starfield Premium Upgrade Edition.

Being offered both digitally and physically at the same early release date as the Premium and Constellation Editions, this special SKU will upgrade the base version of Starfield to the Premium Edition, giving purchasers access to the planned story expansion, Constellation Skin Pack, digital artbook and soundtrack and, of course, the five days early access.

The critical thing is, this $59.95 upgrade also applies to those who’ll be playing the game via Game Pass, meaning that as long as you have an active Game Pass subscription at the time you’ll be able to get into the game five days before the rest of the Game Pass-wielding public does, plus get all of the extra content and bonuses, for less than the cost of the game on its own. Yes, it’s still $59.95 more than if you wait the five days for it to be available to everyone with Game Pass, but if you simply can’t wait and you’re keen on the extra goodies this is definitely a far cheaper option than forking out for the full Premium Edition for anyone who’s maintaining an active subscription already.

Obviously this comes with the caveat that you’ll lose access to the game should your Game Pass membership lapse, but the early access is more of an added perk among the stuff you’re actually paying for in this edition – the DLC expansion, other content, the patch and the SteelBook case. Whether or not this arrangement makes more sense to you depends on how committed you are to Game Pass and whether or not you think $170-500 for what will still be a digital copy is better value in the long run.

You can pre-order the Digital Premium Upgrade on Amazon or the Xbox Store, as well as pick up the other versions of Starfield below:
