Xbox Is Rolling Out A New Feature To Capture And Report Toxic Voice Chat

We're werewolves, not swearwolves.

Xbox has just soft-launched a brand new community safety feature for users playing multiplayer games across the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One platforms.

The new Xbox Voice Reporting function allows players to quickly and easily capture and report inappropriate verbal behaviour that they experience or witness while playing just about any online-enabled game (including backwards compatible titles), with Xbox Insiders in select English-speaking regions getting access to the feature first ahead of a wider rollout.

The feature gives players the ability to quickly capture a 60-second video clip of an incident that they believe violates Xbox Community Standards and can submit it immediately or, in order to minimise interruption of actual play, submit it up to 24 hours after the capture has been taken. Unlike regular video capture on Xbox consoles, these clips aren’t saved for users to view or share later on and simply live within the reporting feature until they’re submitted as a report or expire.

This added feature rounds out the suite of options that players have to report inappropriate content and behaviour on the Xbox platform, from text and image to video and now voice, with the company’s aim to empower players to curate and protect safe, online communities with ongoing and fervent support in pushing back online toxicity.

Stephen Balkam, CEO, Family Online Safety Institute, says in the Xbox Wire news release, “With reactive voice reporting, Xbox continues to help players feel protected. Empowering players with easy-to-use tools helps foster togetherness, while improving the greater health of the gaming community on Xbox. With measures like this in place, players can feel confident they are in a safe, welcoming environment.”
