Since its gameplay reveal back in 2024, news on State of Decay 3 has been a rather slow blood-letting, almost to the point where we were unsure if the game still had a pulse after some of Microsoft’s recent cuts.
Fortunately, the game appears to be alive and well after Undead Labs announced the first alpha playtests, which are set to commence in May and continue periodically throughout the remainder of the year. Given the timeline, it’s safe to assume the game’s 1.0 won’t launch in 2026.
Along with confirming the playtests, the announcement includes a heap of concept art and brief snippets of gameplay that, after a bit of a break, should satiate series fans who have been patient since the game’s reveal six years ago.
