It’s been predicted that the Nintendo Switch has sold around 80,000 units in the UK in the first weekend of it being on sale. This is double the number of Wii U consoles which were sold in the opening weekend (roughly 40,000) in late 2013.
When compared to the Nintendo 3DS, it falls slightly short at 113,00. It also doesn’t come close to the PS4 at 250,000 or Xbox One at 150,00.
All signs seem to point to a positive launch for the Nintendo Switch with it being sold out in the USA, UK and Europe. This number is pretty impressive considering it’s sold out at most UK retailers.
Switch sold 80k units first week in the UK.
Comparison:
250k – PS4
165k – PS3
150k – XB1
113k – 3DS
105k – Wii
70k – 360
40k – Wii U— Daniel Ahmad (@ZhugeEX) March 6, 2017
It’s also got a heavy hitter with Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which was critically acclaimed across pretty much all critics worldwide.
Hopefully Nintendo can do something special on the back of this momentum.
