DualSense Controller

The DualSense PS5 Controller Looks A Lot Better In Black

Sony dropped the PS5 Controller called the ‘DualSense’ controller on Twitter this morning.

It’s safe to say that reactions are mixed, with some people liking it, others saying it looks like an Xbox One controller, but the most prominent point of discussion is definitely around the colour. Sony has this time gone for a predominately white controller which marks the first time since the original DualShock (which was grey) that Sony has strayed away from an all-black controller.

A Resetera member has mocked up the controller in an all-black design as well as some other colour variations, and I have to say, they’re definitely a lot nicer. It’s weird to me that Sony even dropped the coloured buttons, which have signified PlayStation for all of these years. Similarly, the PlayStation button/logo having its iconic colours also looks a lot better.

At first, I thought maybe Sony was just illustrating a white controller to easily tell people that this is a NEW controller, but it’s fairly clearly stated in the PlayStation Blog post that the controller will be two-tone “Traditionally our base controllers have a single color. As you can see, we went a different direction this time around, and decided on a two-toned design.”

There’s every chance we’ll see a black variation (if not at launch, then soon after), but with Sony saying the controller will have a two-tone design, I don’t think we’ll see it in this form.

In terms of other features, the DualSense controller will have USB-C, haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, a microphone built in and a brand new ‘create button’ that will expand on the share functionality. It’s going to be an interesting six months in the lead up to the PlayStation 5 and I can’t wait to see what other features Sony reveal for the new console.
