After prolific rumour-artist NateTheHate revealed this week that he’d heard about a new Ori game in development at Saber Interactive, the series’ original creator, Thomas Mahler of Moon Studios, has taken to X to debunk the claims.
With Mahler’s strained relationship with Xbox, about which the creator has been outspoken, it’s uncertain where his intel is coming from, but he declared the rumours “nonsense” in a post this morning.
He expressed in a prior tweet, however, that he’d be interested in purchasing the IP back from Xbox and that Gareth Coker, the series’ composer, is interested in creating a third game.
After finishing Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Moon Studios went on to develop No Rest for the Wicked, a punishing action RPG expected to launch in October on PC and PlayStation. Interestingly, Mahler has stated the title will skip Xbox for launch due to “market conditions.”
Whether the reports are right and a third Ori game is indeed in development, it’s presumed we’ll hear about it at either Gamescom this week or at a potential second Developer_Direct.
