It’s been a weird year full of delayed games, surprise hits, games that have found their feet in 2020, new consoles and games that clearly have launched in controversial circumstances. To find out about how we voted for our top 10 games of 2020, head here.
#9 – Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be remembered for many reasons. It released just as the world was shutting down to COVID-19 and for many, was a great escape from real-world things happening in 2020.
Hardcore Nintendo fans loved the game for obvious reasons, but the Switch was sold out for months due to those getting back into games for Animal Crossing and other obviously nostalgic reasons. I’ve heard so many endearing stories about people using Animal Crossing to keep connected with people.
Ewan’s (host of The Press Start Podcast) mother put 780 hours into the game using the game to stay connected with her sister during lockdown. At the very core, games should be a way to have fun and stay connected with other people and not many more games did a better job at that than Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
New Horizons has done a great job at providing seasonal content throughout the year and keep people coming back as well.
We didn’t review the game on Press Start (although clearly many of us loved it). The game currently has a 90 on Metacritic.
