Ubisoft was pretty upfront with what they were talking about in their E3 edition of the Ubisoft Forward, though there were a few surprises along the way.
We got a peek at a few updates on the games we knew about – including Watch Dogs Legion, Rainbow Six Extraction, Far Cry 6, and Riders Republic.
Read on for a wrap on everything announced at Ubisoft Forward for E3 2021. Get ready for a whole lot of “A Ubisoft Originals”.
ALL OF UBISOFT’S E3 2021 ANNOUNCEMENTS
THE SHOW CLOSED WITH A NEW LOOK AT THE NEXT AVATAR GAME
It’s a phenomenal-looking project powered by the latest version of the Snowdrop engine. It certainly looks better than their last effort, and I can only hope Sigourney Weaver will appear in it and . It’s called Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and it’s out in 2022 for PS5, Xbox Series X and PC.
A NEW MARIO + RABBIDS GAME TAKES THINGS IN A SCIENCE FICTION DIRECTION
Totally unexpected and not shown anywhere else prior, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope takes place outside of the Mushroom Kingdom and into a spacey direction. Rosalina and Bowser join the roster, and it’s releasing exclusively for Nintendo Switch in 2022.
THE WATCH DOGS LEGION EXPANSION WAS DETAILED
As previously detailed, it’s called Bloodlines and features returning characters from the first two games. Aiden Pearce returns to London to team up with Wrench against a rogue member of DedSec. It releases in July.
THE SHOW OPENED WITH A DEEPER LOOK AT RAINBOW SIX EXTRACTION
We saw a lengthy look at the world of Extraction through a CG trailer as well as a full gameplay walkthrough. You can check out what we thought of the game, having played some matches, in our early hands-on preview. In addition to the walkthrough, Extraction was confirmed to release on September 16th.
ROCKSMITH IS MAKING A RETURN BUT IT’S A BIT DIFFERENT FROM WHAT YOU REMEMBER
Rocksmith+ is a brand new way to learn guitar in real life. Not Guitar Hero guitar, but REAL GUITAR. The new Rocksmith platform is a subscription service that gives players real-time feedback as they play. You can even use your phone as a microphone. Ubisoft promises a huge amount of songs at launch, and the game will have a beta period for PC players sometime in the future.
RIDERS REPUBLIC AND IT’S UNIQUE OPEN WORLD WAS SHOWCASED
Who doesn’t love a good ride? You’ve got heaps of options to do so in Riders Republic – where we learned about the social spaces that you’ll be able to visit with your mates as well as the unique multiplayer modes on offer. There are even some next-gen exclusive features too. I was blessed enough to get a sneak peek at the game prior to the show, and you can read all about that here. Rad AF. It’s releasing on September 2nd.
RAINBOW SIX SIEGE IS FINALLY GETTING CROSS-PLAY AND CROSS-PROGRESSION
Rainbow Six Siege is still kicking six years on, as proper crossplay will be implemented across all platforms during 2022, as well as cross-progression. As shown above, we also got a new look at an animated trailer for a new defender operator named Thunderbird. She’s a healer type who hails from the Nakoda Territories of Saskatchewan.
WE GOT A BRIEF SIZZLE REEL OF UPDATES TO EXISTING GAMES
The highlight was the team hinting that they have big plans for the 20th anniversary of Ghost Recon, so keep an eye out for that one. I know I will.
TODRICK HALL INTRODUCED JUST DANCE 2022
Todrick Hall was the celebrity they wheeled out for this year’s rendition. Werk. It hits on November 4th for every platform ever, but I’m sorry to report it’s skipping Wii again.
THE ASSASSIN’S CREED VALHALLA TEAM SHOWED US THE SIEGE OF PARIS
While we didn’t get a solid release date for the Siege of Paris, we did get confirmation that black box missions are returning. They’re presumably similar to the more open-ended missions from previous games.
While Ubisoft also announced that the Discovery Tour would be returning to the world of Valhalla, they also committed to the second year of content. The first time they’ve ever done so for an Assassin’s Creed game.
A BUNCH OF TV AND FILM PROJECTS WERE FURTHER DETAILED
Presumably in an attempt to out-meta themselves, Ubisoft will are producing a comedy series about a team working in game development for Apple TV+ called Mythic Quest. The Werewolves Within film was also given a new trailer.
A NEW FAR CRY 6 TRAILER HIGHLIGHTED THE ROCKY RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN GIANCARLO ESPOSITO AND HIS SON
The trailer is better experienced so I won’t say much here – but I’m ready for Giancarlo to chew up every scene he’s in.
THE FAR CRY 6 SEASON PASS WAS DETAILED AND IT’S A DOOZY FOR FANS
The downloadable content has you playing as the three major villains from Far Cry 3, 4, and 5. That’s Vaas, Pagan Min, and Joseph Seed. It’s also coming with Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon which is the best expansion they’ve ever done, so that’s great news honestly.
