Dual Front has been in development for nearly two years, and after its announcement, I was skeptical about what a new mode could bring to the Rainbow Six Siege experience. With the launch of Siege X on the horizon, I was thrown into the deep end to see for myself.
The introduction of 6v6 may seem like a simple change on paper, but Dual Front goes beyond just increasing the player count—it delivers a fresh take on Rainbow Six Siege’s core gameplay. This isn’t just about adding more players and letting both sides go at it; it’s a fully fleshed-out mode that feels like a “what if” scenario—what if Siege had always played like this? It gives both veteran and new players a unique twist on the familiar Siege formula.
Designed as part of Siege X’s launch, Dual Front introduces a brand-new map that’s larger than a typical Siege map and built specifically for this mode. It features a symmetrical and balanced layout, requiring teams to attack and defend simultaneously. Inspired by MOBA-style gameplay, the map includes two lanes where teams must capture all objectives in their lane to win—while also defending the other lane from the enemy.
The new mode carries elements of Frontlines and Battlefield’s Breakthrough mode but remains grounded in Rainbow Six Siege’s signature close-quarters combat. However, unlike traditional Siege gameplay, it introduces a different tempo and strategy, making it more dynamic while keeping the tactical depth that defines the series.
As a 3-speed player, I often found myself rushing in Rainbow Six Siege, and in Dual Front, I naturally became the player who constantly jumped between lanes to disrupt enemy advances. The mode encourages different styles of play, and the limited operator pool introduces new meta strategies and team compositions. The ability to respawn and switch operators adds even more tactical depth, allowing teams to adapt to changing situations. Losing sectors too quickly? Time to double down on defenders.
The map also features a dynamic middle section, where unexpected events can take place. During my hands-on session, we had an extra objective to rescue Dokkaebi and extract her via helicopter—a scenario reminiscent of The Division’s Dark Zone extractions—while the enemy team attempted to prevent it. One team can drop everything to complete this side mission, while the other works to stop them—but ultimately, it’s optional. These surprise objectives act as curveballs, adding more variety to each match. This area could also evolve in the future, bringing additional lore elements into play.
Dual Front takes full advantage of the new features introduced in Siege X, including upgraded visuals, improved lighting, and enhanced environmental destruction. While operator abilities can still swing the tide of battle, the world itself is now a tool for strategy—from bursting gas pipes to block entryways to triggering fire extinguishers to create blinding clouds of smoke.
With Siege’s historically steep learning curve, Dual Front offers a more approachable entry point for newcomers while retaining the high-stakes, close-quarters intensity of classic Siege. As the game shifts towards a Free-to-Play model, this mode feels like a perfect onboarding experience for new players—helping them learn the ropes without the frustration of being eliminated early and sitting out the rest of a round.
Dual Front will continue to receive regular updates from day one, with plans to expand the operator map pool, introduce new events, and refine balance over time. As a core mode within Siege X, Ubisoft has the potential to significantly expand its scope—not just by adding gameplay content but also by deepening the game’s lore through evolving in-game events.
In the end, Dual Front is an exciting addition that pushes Rainbow Six Siege into new territory. While not an entirely new title, its fresh mechanics bring a new layer of strategy and variety. I can’t wait to jump in with my squad and see how this mode shapes the future of Siege X.
